AuthenTec Wins 2008 Product of the Year Award from NSPE

- Company’s small form factor AES1510 fingerprint sensor for the wireless market earns prestigious product award

MELBOURNE, Fla., August 7, 2008 – AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH), the world’s leading provider of fingerprint sensors and solutions, announced that its small form factor AES1510 fingerprint sensor has been recognized as 2008 Product of the Year from the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).  AuthenTec’s small form factor AES1510 sensor for the wireless market won the NSPE award in the Medium Company Category.

Previous NSPE Product Award winners include Boeing’s 777 jet airliner, the Mercedes M-Class SUV and Chrysler’s PT Cruiser.  NSPE's New Product Award program recognizes the benefits that come from the research and engineering of new products, such as added employment, economic development, strengthening of the nation's competitive position internationally, and contribution to the public's standard of living.

The AES1510 is one of several small form factor sensors that AuthenTec offers for the PC and wireless markets.  Since the introduction of its first small form factor sensor in 2005, the company now has sold over 10 million such devices, or a third of the Company’s industry leading 30 million total sensors shipped.

Millions of today’s cell phones depend on the AES1510 to enable Power of Touch™ features of security, convenience, personalization, and navigation.  The sensor can be used as a multi-function user control providing touchpad-like navigation of menus, stored files, contact lists and phone functions.  The AES1510 also enables secure mobile payments via cell phone, authorizing a payment with the simple slide of a finger, rather than typing PINs, passwords or lengthy security codes.

Based on the Company’s patented TruePrint® technology to deliver extremely accurate and reliable fingerprint imaging, the AES1510 reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer, where a person’s true fingerprint resides.  This unique subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to overcome common skin surface conditions to read virtually every fingerprint, every Time.  TruePrint also allows AuthenTec to provide the smallest sensors on the market, yet provide all the security, privacy and convenience afforded in its larger form factor devices.
